Systems Biology | Cell Cycle Regulation | Physical Biochemistry

The Ferrell lab is working to understand the design principles of biochemical switches, timers, and oscillators, especially those that control the cell cycle. We are also very interested in the physical biochemistry of the crowded cytoplasm, and how this affects the function and robustness of cell control systems. We make use of quantitative experimental approaches, modeling, and theory. And much of our work makes use of Xenopus egg extracts, like the cycling extract in the video shown above.
